vestment. At the same time there is a tendency for the most polluting and labour intensive industries to shift to countries with lower standards and costs.
WHAT YOU CAN DO There is now an unprecedented opportunity for active public participation in the shaping of global relations,. Non-governmental and grass roots organisations are fighting to halt the rising power of corporations in the form of agreements such as the MAI. Resistance is growing and there is a growing movement of people both from the richer North and the poorer South who are engaged in struggles against the establishment of corporate rule at the local, national and international levels. Resistance to globalism has taken many forms throughout the world: people engage in strikes to defend their working conditions; land occupations to protect rights of access to open areas; non-cooperation; protests; leafleting; blockades; publicity stunts; letter-writing campaigns; sabotage; building local alternatives to big business; organising self-help groups within communities; creating alternative media; the list goes on. Any of these actions can be done by you! We can't wait for our so-called leaders to sort thing out because they are an intricate part of the problem. It's time to get up and do it for ourselves--after all, it is our future. The World has changed, in some ways irreversibly, and the past was far from perfect but there are workable, preferable alternatives to global capitalism. We must not be duped into mindlessly believing that there is no alternative. The time has com to halt the accelerating centralization of political and economic power caused by the expansion of global capitalism, and its shift towards an ever more unaccountable and undemocratic business elite. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to put your case for a just and sustainable world and to have a real say in your future.
